33rd Annual Poosey Conservation Area Fall Tour to be October 20th

The 33rd annual Poosey Conservation Area fall tour is coming up on October 20th in Livingston County.

The area is located northwest of Chillicothe and MDC Media Specialist, Bill Graham, says the area has a lot of local history behind it.

"There used to be a historic pioneer community there.  It's one of our diverse conservation areas.  It's got upland fields and forest and lakes and ponds.  But also has an area within the conservation area that's really rugged."

Graham adds the driving tour begins at Pike's Lake.

"From noon on October 20th until 4:00 p.m. people can drive into the area on roads they normally wouldn't be able to drive on.  And it's a time when the fall foliage is turning and the woods are opened up a little bit.  Usually the weather is nice.  I don't guarantee nice weather, but often it's nice.  It's kind of an uphill - downhill drive. We recommend that anybody who takes this tour have vehicles with good clearance.  We have grated gravel roads, but still, they'll want a pretty good vehicle to take the tour."

The 75th birthday of Smokey Bear will also be celebrated during the event with presentations on the role of fire in forest, woodland, and grassland ecology.
